Response to State of the State

Response to State of the State Last week, Gov. Rhoden delivered his State of the State address. While he did lay out some priorities that Democrats agree with, the Governor also spread misinformation and ignored the affordability crisis. Rhoden also wants to continue Operation Prairie Thunder despite opposition to ICE raids here in South Dakota and across the country.   The Joint Democratic Caucus released their response to the State of the State and laid out their plans to actually tackle real problems in South Dakota. Contact Your State Lawmakers

Contact Your State Lawmakers Along with contacting our members of Congress, it's also important to message your state lawmakers about bills you want them to support or oppose. We're starting a new segment to help you write to your legislators in Pierre. Republicans are trying to tell South Dakotans what they can and cannot buy at the grocery store ( HB 1056 ). Punishing people who are already struggling to get by is cruel. Below is a sample letter you can send to members on the House Health and Human Services Committee. Dear Representative, My name is _________ and I live in ____________. I am urging you to vote NO on HB 1056. The government should not be punishing people for what they buy at the grocery store. That is not freedom, that is government control. Instead, we should be incentivizing SNAP recipients to buy healthier food. Studies have proven that incentive programs work better than banning people from buying junk food. Why is it okay for you or me to buy junk food,...

One Year of Trump's Disastrous Presidency

One Year of Trump's Disastrous Presidency Tuesday marks one year since Donald Trump started his second term. In that time, Trump and his incompetent administration have tanked our economy, raised healthcare prices and increased job cuts. So ask yourself, are you better off than you were a year ago? Below is a sample letter you can send to our members of Congress.   Dear Senator/Representative,   I don't believe our country is headed in the right direction. Just one year into Trump's second term and all of us are struggling to make ends meet. Grocery prices aren't coming down, healthcare is more expensive and unemployment is rising. This isn't the "golden age" Trump promised. How can you continue to back this administration's policies that are hurting Americans? The only people winning right now are the ultra-wealthy, who you gave tax breaks to. I want to know what you plan to do over the next year to actually make my life more affordable. Sen. John T...
